Website UX and IA rebuild for a design studio · CSSDA Site of the Day · 35× traffic in 24h

fourdesign · A redesign with a scoreboard

My role: UX, information architecture, and interaction design, through motion and build handoff.

fourdesign's old site buried the work it was supposed to sell. The rebuild was a UX and information-architecture problem first, restructuring how the studio's projects are found and read, then an interaction problem: make it memorable enough to travel on its own.

Research and IA

I audited the old site the way a visitor uses it: what are people here to do, and where do they give up? The work, the reason anyone visits a studio site, was the hardest thing to find and the slowest thing to read.

So the redesign started as an information-architecture job. I restructured the site around the projects themselves: a clear path in, a consistent way to present each case, and a navigation that never made you guess where you were.

Designing the experience

Case presentation as a system

Every project reads the same way, so visitors learn the pattern once and move fast through the rest.

Motion as wayfinding

The interaction and motion aren’t decoration. They signal state and guide attention through each page, which made the site distinctive without slowing anyone down.

Built to be seen

The whole point of a studio site is to be shared. I designed the hero and transitions to be the thing people screenshot, then handed off cleanly for build.

Outcome

The site won a CSSDA Site of the Day and drove 35× traffic within 24 hours of launch. The award mattered, and the structural win mattered more: the studio’s work now reads in seconds, not minutes.
